Since the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) is still four months away, we’re focusing our attention on their pre-festival event instead. 18-day festival The O.P.E.N. (Jun 17-Jul 4) brings international film screenings, world-class performances and exhibitions to Singapore.
Here, the focus is on younger artists with highlights like the Augmented Reality tour of Tanjong Pagar Railway Station that explores this generation’s relationship with the iconic art deco building. Themed Post-Empire, the festival also brings Brazilian dancer and choreographer Christian Duarte’s one-man mash-up of signature international dance moves, as well as 15 international films like Chilean director, Pablo Larrain’s trilogy, Tony Manero, Post-Mortem and No—all screened at The Projector, of course.
There’s also photography exhibition “The Arrival of Vasco da Gama” by prominent Indian artist Pushpamala N, but our local talents aren’t forgotten, either. Expect tunes from singer-songwriter Inch Chua and instrumentalist group The Teng Ensemble.
Festival passes start at $45 and will get you entry into all but four separately-ticketed events. Tickets to both SIFA and The O.P.E.N goes on sale today (Apr 8).
