Sure, the boutiques and department stores are probably where you’d hit to do the bulk of your Christmas shopping, but there are also fun Christmas markets with crafts and epicurean goodies for some last-minute shopping.
Big N Breezy
Independent designers from Singapore, Jakarta and Bangkok will be making their way down to this Christmas market hosted by e-commerce retailer Megafash. Some unique finds include silk scarves from Indonesian brand Start from the Bottom, which are designed in collaboration with Indonesian artists, stylish spectacles and sunglasses from local eyewear brand Visual Mass and wooden sculptural rings from Bangkok label Gleamwood. There are also plenty of maker workshops ranging from Japanese clay art to jewelry-making if you want to try your hand at crafting a gift instead. Dec 19-20, 12-9pm.
Capitol Piazza
Shop to live music by Top 40s bands and carollers here (well, it’s Christmas, not Laneway). There are local crafts on the mall’s outdoor lawn, food by Angelina Tea Room and Kaiserhaus and wares from tenants like home To Be Calm, which sells luxe essential oils, soy wax candles and diffusers, and Villeroy & Boch, the go-to for premium tableware. Nothing ground-breaking, but it’s a great place for fail-safe gift options, minus the queues. Dec 16-25.
[Sponsored] CHIJMES
This year’s Christmas market has goods from Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia, so look out for the green lawn in the middle of the restaurants and shops. There’s also a coffee booth by the Privilege Enterprise Group, which supports single moms, people of low income and the elderly. There will be Christmas cookies, tea leaves, chocolates and even essential oils. You can also count down to Christmas or the New Year here. Through Dec 31
Christmas Market @ Loewen
There’s a good reason to visit the new Loewen enclave this month—the Dempsey folks are organizing a Christmas market featuring artisanal crafts goods from tenants and vendors like chocolatier Anjali Chocolates, which also will be offering chocolate-making classes, yoga and leisurewear brand SimonaJo and handmade bohemian jewelry by Jewel Rocks. Through Dec 16, 10am-5pm.
Gardens by the Bay
The Christmas Wonderland’s Festive Market, held at the Supertree Grove, has an epicurean slant. Names like Peruvian rooftop bar Tiger’s Milk, gourmet wine and bistro Culina and gastrobar Harry’s will be taking part alongside food trucks and Japanese offerings from supermarket Isetan. You can even tuck into a weekend brunch spread on weekends, Christmas Eve and Christmas day from 10.30am-3pm. On the shopping front, browse through handcrafted wares ranging from artisan perfume to jewelry. Through Jan 3, 4-11pm.
Keepers Presents Playtime
Discover new emerging designers, artists and artisans at this six-week long maker’s market at the National Design Centre. Shoppers are free to interact with 30 of these vendors, or join their series of exhibitions, talks and workshops. Some examples of brands participating are local jewelry designer Carrie K., organic skincare brand FRANK Skincare, local bag designer Ling Wu and furniture store Journey East. Through Jan 10, 11am-7pm.
Millenia Walk
The shopping mall will be hosting a craft market featuring handmade leather goods, mossariums, artworks, homemade bakes and skincare products at the South Galleria. Vendors include local multi-label store Goodgoods, florist Flowers Matters and natural skincare brand Neal’s Yard Remedies. Shoppers can also participate in maker workshops like the Pleated Paper Vase (Dec 19) and Concrete Casting (Dec 20), for a fee of $20 per class. Through Dec 20, 11am-8pm.
Orchard Central
Head to the mall’s Discovery Walk (Level 1) to suss out gift ideas at the OC Christmas Market Place, which features vendors and mall tenants like Tokyu Hands, Seeds of Joy, Shea, Fullmask, Dean & Deluca and Milagro Spanish Restaurant. It’s not quite your indie makers market, but there are also plenty of in-store promotions at cool places like multi-concept store Pact and dining deals to check out. Through Dec 29, 11am-10pm.
Resorts World Sentosa
Located at the Bull Ring, the resort’s first Christmas market features food and drinks stalls like Hard Rock Café and The Guilty Way, a customizable macaron sandwich shop. It also has shopping options including novelty Christmas items, quirky gadgets and household products from TotallyHotStuff, if you’re buying gifts for the office. Through Jan 3,10am-10pm.
