5 delicious reasons to eat out this week in Singapore

Starting tomorrow, book yourself a table at these cool dining events, complete with DJs, celebrity guest chefs, a gangster auction, drag queens and free-flow Champagne.

Lazy Susan

This hot new dining concept by the Spa Esprit Group kicks off at House at Dempsey (Dec 3-27), with guest chef Hann Paclu-Chang from Toronto whipping up East-West plates inspired by Singapore. Look out for Asian-inspired breakfast and lunch items by the former chef de partie of Michelin-starred Kiin Kiin, like prawn paste chicken on a rice flour waffle with sambal maple sauce; braised jackfruit sliders in barbecue sauce with guacamole and pistachios; and sliced lotus root sauteed with house-made chili jam, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf and Thai basil. Come January, he’ll be moving on to Open Door Policy. Dec 3-27, through Jan.

Filthy & Gorgeous

Catch the fabulous Becca D’Bus and her entourage at an unapologetially raucous brunch at Hotel Vagabond. There will be cocktails from Vagabond Bar and grub by grill restaurant 5th Quarter, all for a fee of $110 per person. The morning’s entertainment includes sets by drag queens Noris, Mona Kee Kee and Gina Gemini, with a special appearance by burlesque dancer Sukki Singapora. RSVP at [email protected], and tickets can be bought here. Dec 6, 12-5pm.

Kilo Presents: Cooking Beats—Pla Dib Invasion

Kilo collaborates with hip Bangkok restaurant Pla Dib with a 14-course menu of trendy Thai-fusion plates. Thai beef tartare with vodka and pandan juice, and crabmeat, chili and lime leaves pasta are some highlights to expect, with live tunes by DJs Gungun and Nassa—all from $70 per person. Make your reservation at [email protected]. Dec 3, 6pm.

Eats, Beats and Treats

Those who can’t get a spot at Meatliquor’s Eats, Beats and Treats’ Dec 12 slot should hurry and book themselves a reservation this Saturday. For $90 per person, the day’s grub includes a free-flow (from 1-4pm) of unpretentious dishes like mac & cheese, deep fried pickles, sambal prawns, a selection of their heartiest burgers, and also beers and cocktails. And if you’d like to keep the Champagne coming, it’ll cost you an additional $30. DJ Oliver Osbourne will be helming the deck. Reservations can be made at [email protected] or at 6221-5343. Dec 5.

The Auction

A heart-pulsing, black market auction is the theme of this interactive pop-up restaurant inspired by the underground dining subcutlure of London. There are elements of art, culture and theatrics to keep you entertained while you participate by pitting your wits, negotiation skills and strategy tactics against the actors and other diners. The four to five-course dinner by And So Forth includes Japanese-Scillian seafood plates, with a selection of whisky, rum and gin-based cocktails. It’ll be held at a secret warehouse location, and details will only be sent to diners via SMS the night before. Book your tickets at $98 per person here. Dec 4, 5, 10 and 12, 7.30pm.
