5 things to look forward to at this year’s Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar

It’s that time of the month again when Ramadan bazaars start popping up all over the island. The Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is a huge one that warrants a mandatory yearly visit. This year, we’ve rounded up a few things that you should definitely keep look out for.

The official light up

The bazaar kicks off with an official night filled with vibrant lights, festive decors, and performances. From Jun 4-Jul 6, the Hari Raya Light Up 2016 is expected to be more extravagant and spectacular than the previous years, with lights and festive decorations lining up a 2.8km stretch of Geylang Serai from Still Road to Lorong 101 Changi Road.

Food, food, food

In the past year, hipsters have invaded the food bazaar at Geylang Serai, and they’re definitely not going anywhere. Grab street snacks such as flavored churros, Thai rolled ice cream, and bagels from booths set up by local entrepreneurs such as Loco Loco, Happy Rollies, WORD., and more. They’re hard to miss—just keep an eye out for the long queues.

If you’re not a fan of sweet treats, there’s the good ol’ Ramly Burger from one of the many stalls, or a cheap bag of Indian vadai to munch on while shopping.

On-fleek fashion choices

For those doing some last minute shopping, the bazaar is the perfect place to get great deals on traditional and modern festive outfits. Families and couples who are going matchy-matchy this Hari Raya can score some fashionable outfits from stalls like Farhan Faashion and ANZA.

Fancy home accessories

Festive decor and sparkly accessories are a must for Hari Raya, and there are plenty of booths that will leave you spoiled for choice. Even if you’re not decorating your home for holidays (gasp), you can still can get in the mood by decking yourself with intricate henna/mehndi designs by henna artists at their booths.

Bazaars galore

The ideal location of Geylang Serai makes it a crowd magnet during the month of Ramadan, and other bazaars have joined the party this year.

Rilek Jack Market’s Rilek Di Ramadan – Music and Art Market gets you in the Raya mood with a local acoustic music sesh and invites local crafters to showcase their products near Tanjong Katong Complex from Jun 6-Jul 5, 2pm-12am.

And happening every weekend (Fri-Sun) from Jun 3-Jul 3, the TGIF Ramadan Flea @ OneKM Mall offers a wide variety of apparels and accessories.
