We all know Bras Basah as a culturally rich neighborhood with its museums, historical landmarks and heritage buildings at every other corner. But this weekend (Nov 18-19), there’s going to be a vibrant street party in the arts district that’s making a comeback in an alleyway between Deck and NAFA Campus 3.
There’ll be a ton of activities and programs at the Bras Basah.Bugis Arts Sprawl, but if you’re looking for a curated experience, here’s what we’d suggest.
Catch a film under the stars
There will be local films being screened along the vicinity such as Ying & Summer, a story of a Taiwanese student trying to overcome her loneliness in the bustling city of Melbourne and My Father After Dinner, which snagged the award for Best Singapore Short Film at the Silver Screen Awards. 6pm-8pm, Nov 18 & 19
Forget block parties; this one’s in an alley
There really isn’t any excuse not to go. Dance your shoes off under stars in the alley between Prinsep and Bencoolen Street to the tunes of former Zouk resident DJ Andrew Chow and DJ Caden, who’s been making a name for himself ever since he won the Sentosa DJ Spin Off contest last year. 8pm-12am, Nov 18 &19
Build an old-school camera
This photography workshop doesn’t involve the modern DSLR that every Tom, Dick and Harry have come to know of but instead, it focuses on the very foundation to which modern cameras are built on. Take a trip back in time and learn how to to build your own camera obscura in this 45-minute workshop. 12pm-6pm, Nov 19
Get all your gentlemen-ly needs at this one-stop market
We’re probably used to having markets by now, but this one’s a little different; it’ll have a slew of goods and services like leather accessories, suits, a shoe-shining booth, a tattoo pop-up parlour and many other things that a modern gentleman needs. You can even get yourself a dapper haircut while you’re at it. 12pm-6pm, Nov 19
Pick up a book at this mobile library and look cool while reading
Calling all bookworms! Look out for this mobile pop-up library where you can pick up a book and a grab a hot cup of coffee (you’ll get it for free if you donate a book to the library). Find a cool spot nearby and unwind among people just like yourself. 12pm-6pm, Nov 19
