We called it here first: it seems like April is comedy month, what with all the funnymen flocking to town. Here is our guide to the slew of comedic fests and gigs happening soon. Mark your calendars!
Joe Klocek (19 March)
American comedian, Joe Klocek, of Last Comic Standing fame will be visiting Singapore for a one-night only show for the first time ever.
Happy Ever Laughter (16-27 April)
Join 13 of your favourite local comedians, like Adrian Pang, Mark Lee, and Hossan Leong, to poke fun at everything Singaporean. From bus drivers, to politicians, to expensive plates, no expense will be spared for anything under the sun that we complain about.
Magners Singapore International Comedy Festival (23-26 April)
Boat Quay transforms into a comedic riverbend during this fringe-style festival that brings together some of the biggest regional and international acts. This four day LOL-fest includes top comedians from the UK, US, Australia, as well as some of our favourite local stand-up comics. Check the website for a full line-up.
Comedy Fringe (23-26 April)
Happening simultaneously to the Comedy Festival is Comedy Fringe. Focusing primarily on up-and-coming comedians, Jonathan Atherton shines a spotlight on the burgeoning talents in our region. As the founder of the Comedy Club, Atherton calls it a coming-of-age for the Southeast Asian and the local stand-up comedy scene.
Jeff Dunham (21 May)
One of America’s most-loved comedians and ventriloquists is here for one night only. Famous for performing with his wildly inappropriate puppets, namely Achmed the Dead Terrorist, this will surely leave you on the floor rolling in laughter.
If that’s not enough, here are some events happening each month that ensures you get a regular fix of endorphins:
22 Calibre Comedy (the 22nd of each month)
A monthly event at 22 Mosque St., up to ten comedians perform four rounds of unscripted comedy. The best part? The audience gets to choose who comes out tops.
Every Thursday, comedians converge at the Penny Black for a night of good, ol’ stand-up fun over lots of pints.
Each Wednesday, comedy guru Jonathan Atherton performs in this stand-up open-mic alongside other great local comedians.
A stalwart in the local, weekly stand-up scene, join various comedians for some short and snappy acts on their open-mic nights.
