Become a booze expert with these masterclasses happening in Singapore

November is here and we have got you all prepared with a bunch of alcoholic-centric events. Since the festive season is just around the corner, what better way to indulge in a few tipples just to get into the holiday mood. Here are five tipple events that you should check out this month.

A Celebration of Cognac (Nov 10)

ChateauAsia puts the spotlight on cognac, following the recent 250th anniversary celebration of Hennessy. Learn more about its origin, history, fascinating methods of preparation and the differences between a VSOP and an XO cognac from special guest (and one of Asia’s top bartenders) Russell Cardoza, who will also be sharing a few cocktails you can prepare yourself at home. Yes, there will be tastings too.

1855 The Bottle Shop’s Wine & Whisky Week (Nov 8-13)

1855 The Bottle Shop’s Wine and Whisky Week is back for a second run from Nov 8-13, offering the same one-stop tasting, shopping and education experience as the first. And yes, it’s a free event. There’ll be more than 500 labels of wines and spirits from different regions to try over the five-day affair. They also have a slew of masterclasses, including a workshop on all-things whisky, as you will taste different types of whiskies around the world and also an first taste of four specially curated single malts from Scotland.

Whisky Live Singapore (Nov 12-13)

Whisky Live Singapore 2016, returns to Capella Hotel Singapore in Sentosa for its seventh edition with about 300 expressions and over 60 whisky and spirit brands for you to try, including The Macallan. Big names such as whisky writer Dave Broom will be conducting a class that only focuses on sherry cask whiskies. Rum expert Luca Gargano and master mixologist Rogerio Igarashi Vaz, who co-founded Japan’s famed Bar Tram and Bar Trench, will be dropping by to lead masterclasses and mix up signature cocktails. Rogerio will also be recreating Bar Trench at the event, so expect their signature drinks like the Two Gun Northside and the Coriander Southside.

East Imperial Gin Jubilee (Nov 20-26)

The fourth edition of the East Imperial Gin Jubilee is coming to Singapore, bringing a heady dose of gin culture to town. They will be touring four other cities in Asia before stopping by Singapore in November. The highlight of this year’s event is the Asia’s Best Gin & Tonic competition, which will see 80 bars from the participating cities competing for the title. Other events include masterclasses, tasting sessions, and the famous Gin Lane closing party. 

Sake Professional Class (Nov 29)

If you have a keen interest in sake but lack the smarts, sign up for this sake introductory class. You will get to cover the rich history, the intricate process and also know how to select a good sake. By the end of the class, you’ll get to try different expressions of sake and appreciate the finer points of Japanese rice wine.
