Book ahead: 6 upcoming concerts in Singapore to get excited about

With some major indie acts announced recently, the concert calendar for the next couple months is really heating up. Here are a few we’re especially excited about.

Gentlebones (Dec 10)

Singer-songwriter Joel Tan aka Gentle Bones, will be performing his debut concert showcasing new songs off his yet-to-be-titled second EP alongside iTunes chart toppers like “Until We Die”, “Elusive” and “Settle Down”. Expect indie folk tunes with a nice mix of blues and funk. Esplanade Concert Hall, $35-$55.

Blissout (Dec 12)

Take out your yoga mats and get comfy at Gardens By The Bay for an evening of electronic music and yoga. The evening kicks off with a yoga session for novices followed by a session for experienced yogis conducted by festival instructor Sianna Sherman. Then get ready to party as indie rockers The Naked and Famous headline the evening’s concert, with support from Inch Chua.The Meadow, Gardens By The Bay, 18 Marina Gardens, $90-$110

Halestorm (Dec 18)

The Grammy Award-winning American hard rock band will play their maiden gig in Singapore in support of their third studio album release, Into the Wild Life. Expect a night of fast riffs, double pedals and lots of heavy metal tunes including previous hits like “Freak Like Me” and “Love Bites (So Do I)”. The Coliseum, Resorts World Sentosa, 8 Sentosa Gateway, $68-118.

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival (Jan 30) 

The sixth edition of this festival will be at Meadows by the Bay again, with a few big acts making an appearance, like dream pop duo Beach House, award-winning Scottish electronic band CHVRCHES and majestic electro producer Flume, probably best known for his collab “The Greatest View” with Isabella Manfredi. Bon Iver (Feb 26)

One of the hottest indie acts in recent years, Bon Iver will be performing at The Star Vista on Feb 26. You probably know that his first album For Emma, Forever Ago was hailed as one of the best break-up albums by Rolling Stone. The one-man band, best known for “Skinny Love” melts hearts with his ethereal tunes and use of synthesizers. Apart from this track, expect other hits like “Holocene,” “Towers” and “Calgary.” 1 Vista Exchange Green, The Star Theatre, $68-$148

Death Cab For Cutie (Mar 7)

No self-respecting indie music lover will want to miss Death Cab For Cutie. The champions of alternative emo, comprising Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer and Jason McGerr, are performing tracks like “Black Sun” and “Little Wanderer” from Kintsugi, their eighth studio album. But of course, we are also hoping for fan favorites like “The Sound of Settling” from Transatlanticism and We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes. The Coliseum, Resorts World Sentosa, 8 Sentosa Gateway, $99-$190
