Big-time electro music festival Ultra became a full-fledged festival last year. Before, they had Road To Ultra in 2015—a downsized, one-day event at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre featuring biggies like Skrillex and Alesso. The huge brand, which was founded in 1997, has been a mainstay on the Miami music festival circuit for a long time now, so it’s actually really a big deal that they’ve finally penetrated the Singapore market. And this afternoon, they’ve just announced the first wave of artists who’ll be making their way to Singapore on Jun 10-11.
It’s a dizzying list of 15 huge international headlining acts this year, with live sets by KSHMR, who recently rose to the 12th position on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs last year, Australian drum and bass outfit Pendulum (fun fact: two of their members form the hard-hitting electro house group Knife Party) and French house producer and DJ Tchami, who took the stage at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival last year. Dutch big room house producer Hardwell is returning to Singapore after headlining ZoukOut last year, along with other familiar names like Dash Berlin, the legendary Sasha & John Digweed, Tiesto (he was just here at Zouk last month), Steve Angello (we may never see Swedish House Mafia together again but hey, we got to see Axwell and Ingrosso last year), French future house producer Martin Solveig and the Janssen brothers a.k.a. Showtek. Other notable acts include Don Diablo, Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Nicky Romero and Steve Aoki.
Last year’s inaugural edition in September welcomed acts like deadmau5, Axwell and Ingrosso and Above & Beyond who entertained a crowd of 45,000 festival-goers, but it also saw its usual bouts of hiccups (long queues, Ultra logo on main stage not lighting up, etc.) which they resolved by the second day of the spectacle.
