The Geylang Adventures people, who are behind initiatives such as Back Alley Barbers, Migrant Mail and other social mixers between locals and migrant workers, are rolling out a big annual cook-off next week. Majulah Belanja (Onwards, To Treat), partnering with dormitory operator, D Wall Pte Ltd, which aims to bring people together through food and fun, will take place on Sep 18 at an Admiralty dormitory.
Here’s how it works: first, register to participate here (it’s limited to 70 participants, and costs $37, which goes towards groceries). You get teamed up with three migrant workers who live at the dormitory. On Sep 18, show up at 9am and get cooking. You don’t need to be a cook, as the workers will lead you through making dishes like dumplings, nakshi puli and samosas.
Food aside, there will be plenty of other ice breakers such as photo booths, wall drawing, composting workshops and more. Register here.
