Making it to the shortlist of a contest that sees 140,000 images submitted from over 160 countries is no mean feat, but that’s precisely what four Singaporean photographers have done. The images, which include a Bengal tiger at the Singapore zoo and an artfully composed shot of the Woh Hup complex, will go on show at Somerset House in London from 1-18 May as part of the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition, which celebrates the best in international contemporary photography.
Three of the names–Joyce Le Mesurier (in Arts and Culture); Chin Boon Leng (for Nature & Wildlife); and Jameel Hamidou (also Nature &Wildlife)–are in the Open categories (for enthusiasts and judged on a single image), while Reuben Foong makes the portrait shortlist in the Youth category (for photographers under 20 years old).
