Singapore’s first-ever Songkran Festival 2014 (which traditionally celebrates the end of Thailand’s dry spell—how apt for us) promises to be a whole lot of wet and wild fun. Here’s what you need to know about the celebration, which will be held on April 12 and 13:
The main draw: H20 Music Festival
- Headlined by hip hop quartet Far East Movement, who brought us hits such as “Like a G6” and “Rocketeer”.
- DJ acts include DJ Visionaire, Inquisitive, Celeste Siam and Nicole Chen.
- Other stellar local and international artistes include Ming Bridges, Film Rattapoom, 3.2,1 and more.
Fringe activities
- There’ll be a bazaar where you can shop for authentic handicrafts, souvenirs, clothing, books, artworks, furniture and more, as well as feast on authentic Thai food.
- Festival goers can also have some fun at the carnival, with games and rides for just about every age group.
- Watch some live sporting action at the Muay Thai exhibition tournament—there’ll be a total of 15 bouts across two days.
Useful tips
- It’s cheaper to get a two-day pass ($60) for the music fest—double the fun for less—and you don’t have to pay to enter the other festival areas.
- Bring along a set of clothes to change into (it’s a water festival!).
- An umbrella would be a good idea too, now that the skies have started pouring again.
- However, sunblock is also a must—the Padang offers little respite from the glare of the sun.
- The music fest runs till 1am, so make sure you’ve got transport planned out.
