Migrant worker visibility in Singapore has been at an all time high, with so many initiatives by organizations and individuals out there dedicated to break stereotypes and help them with various causes, such as the Majulah Belanja, the TWC2’s appeal for the donation of unused 3G phones and a short film that explores the lengths migrant workers go to get married, among others. Adding on to that list is beCAUSE, a charity jazz concert aimed to raise $10,000 for Healthserve, a non-profit organization that helps in the provision of medical care, counselling, and a whole bunch of services for migrant workers.
This charity jazz concert is the brainchild of Singapore-based singer-songwriter Dru Chen and his partner Melyssa Goh, and will take place on Dec 2 at Sultan Hotel’s SingJazz Club. Apart from showcasing their original work, Singapore’s folk, blues, soul and funk musicians such as Shak & The Bait, bittymacbeth, and of course, Dru Chen, will gather to perform covers from jazz legends like Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, James Brown and others.
