3 great reasons to head back to Pulau Ubin

Singapore’s so-called last kampong is pretty happening in Feb and March. Other than the year-round biking and hiking, here are some special events in Pulau Ubin for photographers, eco-nerds and heritage buffs.

Day Out to Pulau Ubin – Nature Walk and Photography (Feb 21)

Organized by the Lomography Embassy Singapore, brand ambassador Haiz will be leading this nature and photography walk, bringing photographers of all skill levels to check out the places to get the best shots. This includes rubber plantations, beaches and even some of the mangrove areas, so come prepared to create some cool nature shots. While Haiz specializes in helping those who still use analog cameras, those using digital cameras are welcome, too. The tour is from 11am-5pm. Drop them a message on Facebook to confirm your attendance. Free

Forest Clean Up (Feb 27)

The environmentally conscious can go on a forest clean-up organized by the Nature Society of Singapore. You’ll learn of the harmful effects pollution has on the island and what you can do to help. This outing is only limited to 30 people and starts from 9am-12pm. Be prepared to rise early. While details are scant at the moment, you can keep tabs on this event on Facebook. Register here. Free

Chek Jawa Guided Tour (Mar 8, 14)

You’ll have to wake up really early to make the 8-10am tour covering the six eco-systems and the animals that live there, too. You’ll go through the Chek Jawa visitors center, walking along its 1.1km long boardwalk and check out the natural landscape from the Jejawi viewing tower. The groups accommodate a maximum of 15 people, and you may still get a place… if you put yourself on the waitlist. $60 for 15 people
