This exhibition created quite a buzz and attracted over 38,000 people. Originally supposed to run until Apr 26, it got extended until May 24 with longer opening hours and there’s also talk of it becoming part of a permanent exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore. New memorabilia are also still being added, with the latest being an old telegraph that had been sent by Lee Kuan Yew in 1958. Other items on display include photographs, the iconic red box and the wig that he once wore.

Word just broke that veteran actor Adrian Pang will be playing the younger Lee Kuan Yew in Metropolitan Production’s latest musical: The LKY Musical. And, starring opposite him as Madam Kwa Geok Choo is actress and host Sharon Au. Directed by London director Steven Dexter (Forbidden City) and with music written by Dick Lee, it tells the story of Lee Kuan Yew’s early days, from his college years to the racial unrest in the 50s and of course leading Singapore to its independence in 1965. This production will be staged at MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands and tickets are now on sale. More details here.

Another production revolving around the life of Lee Kuan Yew is 1965, a movie with seasoned actor Lim Kay Tong taking on the lead role. Joining him are well-known names in the local showbiz scene like Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu and former politician Nicole Seah will also be making her acting debut. Set to open in the iconic Capitol Theatre on Jul 30, this dramatic thriller tells the story of Singapore in the months leading up to its separation from Malaysia and also touches on the racial conflict that took place in the 60s.
