This year’s Singapore Arts Festival celebrates our capacity and desire to remember what’s been lost or forgotten with a series of free and ticketed shows put together by artists all over the world. Local theater company The Necessary Stage will bring to life a host of historical personalities in both real and imagined situations in a seriously funny production Singapore while Drama Box aims to recognize the role of women in history with Herstory, which conveys the trials and tribulations of a woman as a wife and mother in the erratic 50s. The roots of our culture are also thrown into the nostalgic mix as the Singapore Chinese Orchestra spotlights traditional Nanyin music in A Heritage Journey: Elegance of Nanyin. Don’t miss Jeremiah Choy’s remake of the late director William Teo’s The Conference of the Birds.
The Singapore Arts Festival 2011 occurs from May 13-June 5. Tickets will be available on Sistic from Mar 1. For more information, log on to www.singaporeartsfest.com.
