Local homebrewers battle it out at The Great Singapore Brew-Off

With the new big-flavored craft beer line Brewlander launched in Marchhome brewmasters like John Wei, who made a steep career change from being a business development executive, put home brewing in the spotlight again. As the homebrewing game gets more serious, the local Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) community organized The Great Singapore Brew-Off 2017, a homebrew competition dedicated to “sniffing out” the best home brews across nine categories (lager, pale, IPA, wheat, Belgian, amber, dark, sour and speciality).

The registration and submission of beers has ended for interested participants, but you can still join the after party on Apr 22 at Freehouse. From 6pm-2am, there’ll be two beers on tap that’s only available for that day, on top of Freehouse’s 16 other taps. The two special beers are Dank You All For Coming, an imperial amber IPA made up of extract, Columbus, Mosaic, Simcoe and Centennial pellets and hash, and Happy Belly, hoppy sour ale with mango and passionfruit. All of the proceeds from the two special drinks will go to Society for the Aged Sick and the recommended price is $6, though you can still pay as you wish.

The after party will also include a session with John Wei, brewmaster of Brewlander & Co, where you’ll get to hear about his journey. There’ll also be a Q&A sesh at the end. To end off the night, the winner of the compeitition will be announced at 8pm. And FYI, the winner will get the chance to brew a batch of beer at Archipelago Brewerys Little Fal Pilot System. More info here.
