Malay communal eating for a great social cause? Yes, please!

Earlier this year, the T Project, a modest home for transgender Singaporeans, was in danger of closing due to lack of funds. But thanks to donations by well-wishers and a fund raising dinner at Artistry that summed up to $137,000, they’ve moved to a shophouse in the east of Singapore, complete with CCTV surveillances and key card entrances. Now, they’re hosting their second fund-raising dinner, this time with the help of former transgender model Amy Tashiana.

Artistry is teaming up Amy for the second edition of The Giving Table, a special dinner on Oct 24, where she’ll prepare a buffet spread of typical home-style Malay dishes. As you know, Amy was signed with the renowned Carrie Models agency and became one of the most successful transgender models of her time. She even had a stint as an entertainer at the infamous Boom Boom Room, which at that time was the only place with a drag revue. Now, she’s retired from the glitzy world of fashion and has since become a sister-figure to many younger transgender individuals.

Tickets are $80 on Peatix ($50 for students, artists and activists), and 100% of proceeds will go towards helping the T Project provide care, a home and empowerment for transgender individuals.
