WalkaboutSG, the annual city-wide public open house for techology companies, is back this year on Jun 26. It’s a free and easy event where you get to mingle and pick the brains of local entrepreneurs in their own offices. There are about 109 companies for you to explore, and personalized bus tours are available for those who are too lazy to hoof it. You can plan your day by checking the event schedule on their website. Here are four great reasons to go this year.
1. You can check out the local start-up scene
Among the participants will be big players like Google, Facebook and Twitter. But more intriguingly, also opening their offices are local start-ups like EasyVan, 99.co and Gone Adventurin‘ and, intriguingly, a new bike-sharing app called Otter.
2. There are special workshops by big players
For insights on the tech business or the more technical aspects of the industry, there are special events like talks and workshops conducted by Amazon Web Services, Google Developers, Bash and Peatix available. These are ticketed programs though, so you will have to register here. Do it fast, though, as they’re already selling out.
3. You might also land yourself a job
Sequoia, the U.S venture capital company that recently gave a bunch of investment money to 99.co, is looking for potential candidates to work with their portfolio companies based in India and Southeast Asia.
4. The afterparty location is kind of cool
It’s not all business though. After a day of schmoozing, you can let your hair down at the afterparty held at the Singapore Stock Exchange. There will be free-flow beer.
