Street photography has grown quite a bit here in Singapore, and technology has made it easier and way more accessible for people to take up this form of art, thanks to the introduction of hybrid cameras, which has the capabilities of the powerful DSLRs all jam-packed within a small, compact camera-sized chassis, as well as cameraphones. For ION’s third installment of their Art Photography Series which will take place from now till Oct 23, they’ll be featuring two local photographers, Aik Beng Chia and Mark Teo, who will showcase Singapore’s streetscapes in their own respective and distinct styles.
Mark Teo gravitates towards sports (and action) photography, and captures dynamic moments seamlessly despite the fast pace environment he’s usually shooting in. He is also the first photographer from Asia to work at the Red Bull headquarters in Austria. Aik Beng Chia’s approach is much more personal and is well-known for his street photography, capturing the in-between moments of Singaporeans that often goes unnoticed. His “Singkarpor” project, which included a tribute to Lee Kuan Yew, featured the somber moods and feelings of Singaporeans during his passing.
There are over 60 photos to gawk at, so here’s a little taste of what you can expect.
