Singapore’s Earth Hour 2012 celebrations will be held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza on Orchard Road this March 31. Stores and hotels on the shopping strip will turn their lights off for an hour from 8:30pm as a symbolic, electricity-saving gesture.
Also expect to see a human formation of Earth Hour ambassadors. They will form the message “60+”, representing the 60 minutes in an hour, and the additional importance of going beyond just the annual gesture. Diana Chng, communications manager of event organizer WWF Singapore, says, “It’s a showcase of support for nature conservation by individuals of all ages and from all walks of life.”
Other activities include an eco-carnival with 14 booths promoting energy efficient products and sustainable living. 6,000 people are expected to turn up for the event. To learn more, head to the Earth Hour website.
