While this year’s Michelin Guide Singapore didn’t see any new hawker entrants, life still goes on, and so will our love for street food. Come Aug 12, get ready for a feast as Resorts World Sentosa’s (RWS) Malaysian Food Street becomes the epicenter of Southeast Asia’s diverse offerings of local grub.
On top of the nine stalls already at the food enclave, 11 additional ones from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and of course Singapore, will be brought in for RWS’ inaugural nine-day Street Eats pop-up.
You can dig into Sempalit Curry Chicken, a 60-year-old secret recipe from Restoran Damodaran Nair in Pahang, Malaysia; a traditional and authentic plate of East Javanese style Ayam Penyet by Nona Manis; the popular, full-bodied Pho Bo by Nha Hang Viet in Ho Chi Minh City (fun fact: the recipe for this dish was created by Iron Chef Vietnam personality, chef Do Quang Long); and, representing Singapore, the famed paper-thin popiahs from Kway Guan Huat Hokkien Popiah; among many others.
It feels like the perfect place for a foodie event like this to take place, especially since the enclave’s interiors were made to look like an old town-style food street, complete with retro furniture, dingy-looking (but fully equipped with modern conveniences) street stalls, facades of old school shop houses and buildings. Here are some of the dishes you can expect.
Admission to RWS Street Eats is free. You’ll only be paying for what you’re eating, which is a good thing, especially since each dish is only priced between $4-$8. They’ll even be a Beer Garden with live music to keep you entertained. Pre-purchase event food vouchers here.
