April’s Artbox Singapore may have turned into a sweaty mess, but fret not, May continues to be filled with markets taking place all around Singapore, from foodie-centric ones to those catered to shopaholics. Get your wallets ready for these 11 money grabbers.
International Summer Fair @Singapore (May 4)
From 11am to 8pm, a range of vendors will fill the atrium at Kallang Leisure Park, bringing you things like flowery handpainted sandals from Zehra, organic skincare products by Veg with Meg and chikankari sarees by Shanghai-based fashion label Nayyab by Arti Mittra. Other things you can find there are accessories, lingerie and coconut-based items.

Thai Festival 2017 (May 4-7)
It’s no secret that Singaporeans love anything Thai, especially flea markets. Artbox Singapore is not the only Thailand market here; check out the returning Thai Festival organised by Royal Thai Embassy. They promise over 110 vendors dishing out Thai food, fruits, snacks, fashion apparels and health products. Enjoy performances by the Bangkok Mini Groovy band while you’re there and even catch Muay Thai performances and a cooking show. Spending a minimum of $20 will net you a chance to win a pair of Thai Airways tickets to Bangkok.

Celebrating 10 Years of KittyWu (May 6)
Local record label KittyWu, which we interviewed earlier, is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a series of gigs by rock and alternative acts. Alongside the performing musicians will be an art and merch market with vendors such as Singapore music label Canopus Distro, Meanie Mart and The Analog Vault, the to-go vinyl store in Esplanade.

Doujin Market 2017 (May 6-7)
Organised by Singapore’s one-and-only pop culture marketing collective, Neo Tokyo Project, Doujin Market is bound to be the gathering of all things anime and cosplay. As the name Doujin suggests, the festival will see like-minded artists and hobbyists showcasing their manga artworks, game designs and comic books. More than 100 vendors will be there.

Mother’s Day Flea Market (May 12-14)
In collaboration with One Kampong Glam, Fri-nally Fete Street Art Market will be organising a recurring flea on Baghdad Street with different themes each month. In May, source out your ideal Mother’s Day gifts at more than 20 stalls selling jewelry, beauty products, knick-knacks, snacks, and more. You can also find cute hair accessories from Ny and Lu and patterned socks from The Alley.

Katong Square Lifestyle & Vintage Market (May 12-14)
Not into minimalistic and hipster trends? The self-proclaimed “only true-blue” vintage market is back again this month, with 18 resident booths including batik craftspeople MoroBatik, vinyl collectors Karang Unique and vintage costume jewelry outfit Shoubijoux.

New2U Bazaar (May 13)
Many of us shopaholics might already be familiar with the New2U Thrift Shop tucked away in the corner of Waterloo Street. This time, their bi-annual bazaar returns on May 13, letting go of pre-loved donated clothing, art items and books at prices starting from $1. It’s the best place to bring your mother for some guilt-free shopping on their special day (so they can’t nag at you for spending too much).

Farmers’ Markets at Loewen Gardens (May 13)
Loewen Gardens’ Farmers’ Market is back again this month, promising a range of organic wine, vegetables and coffee. Treat your mother to some fancy goods from vendors like OrganicHimalayaNepal; Salut-Lebanon, a Lebanese condiments maker; BottlesXO; Four Seasons Organic Market; and The Meat Club, selling their line of beef and lamb from Australia.

Urban Ventures – Vol. 6 (May 19-21)
One of the coolest street party planners, Urban Ventures, returns with their sixth edition at Duxton Plain Park with an eclectic range of activities. Over three days, Darker than Wax and local musicians like Ken Loh, The Pudgy Busker and Stanley Ho will be on music duty, alongside an artisan market featuring 20 local brands like bake&bake, World at Your Feet (vegan footwear brand) and SOICOCO with their Thailand coconut shakes.
Artists such as Paintinks by melt, Monica Maestre and Irina Chuchkina will also be using a pedestrian underpass there as their own canvas for two projects, Before I Die and Secret Tunnel. Other activities include workshops by STPI, a mass yoga class and salsa dance sessions.

Camp Kilo x Commoner Creatures Present Art Club #03 (May 21)
The third edition of Art Club returns to Kallang Riverside Park’s coolest restaurant with The Council’s resident DJ CATS ON CRACK and techno boy Julien Brochard on the decks. 14 vendors confirmed for the event include jewelry brand NiLuh; artist Suiyobi Noyoubi, known for her black-and-white drawings of a short haired girl; and F&B provider Selva Foods. Enjoy grilled and barbecued delights there also.

Organic-Friendly Farmer’s Market (May 27)
The outdoor affair organised in collaboration with Hotel Jen Orchardgateway by event planners In Touch returns this May, where you’ll be able to shop for seasonal organic produce, spices, fruits and herbs from farms found locally and around Asia. You can choose to get them prepared by the chefs at the restaurant, Makan@Jen, if you wish. Once you had your fill, have a stretch at a yoga session.
