The second coming of Michelin Guide Singapore will be revealed on Jun 29

The first-ever Singapore edition of the Michelin Guide was received with much pomp and circumstance at the Resorts World Sentosa’s convention center last year, though the results caused a bit of stir within the local food scene. A year later, they’re back to reveal the 2017 selection of Singapore’s best eateries and award them with the highly coveted Michelin stars at the iconic Fullerton Hotel on Jun 29.

While the first edition had some hotly contested inclusions, including hawker stalls—which actually make up a big part of our everyday lives—it was a bit upsetting that restaurants helmed by Singapore chefs were relatively underrepresented. Of the 29 restaurants awarded stars, only six are helmed by Singapore chefs, and it didn’t include local biggies like Iggy’s and Wild Rocket. This year, will there be a better representation of our talented born-and-bred-in-Singapore chefs, or will they be snubbed once again?

It’s also exciting to see how well current Michelin star awardees Restaurant Andre, Odette, Les Amis, Waku Ghin, Corner House and Jaan will fare this time, especially since they made this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Perhaps Burnt Ends (#10 on the list), with their signature charred fennel with orange and burrata; Tippling Club (#27 on the list), with Ryan Clift’s always exciting, always different gastronomic offerings; and Shinji by Kanesaka (#44 on the list), with their outstanding omakase selection; will receive their well-deserved stars this year.

Just like last year, the Michelin Guide Singapore 2017 Star Event, where this year’s selection will be announced, will be open to the public. So if you want to be part of the action, make sure you get your tickets ($595 a pop) online early. Here, you’ll be treated to an exclusive five-course dinner prepared by internationally renowned chefs from Michelin-starred eateries around the world, including chef Jason Tan (Corner House, one Michelin star, Singapore), chef Tam Kwok Fung (Jade Dragon, two Michelin stars, Macau) and chef Curtis Duffy (Grace, three Michelin stars, Chicago).
