Singapore Heritage Festival

DRINK
Timbre+ is having a month-long first anniversary celebration in April and on this final stretch of the party, Strongbow Week will be taking place with the cider brand launching their new Dark Fruit cider here. The celebrations conclude in style this weekend with the Strongbow Cider Cookout in the courtyard; a garden barbecue party presented by Garcons Express, The World Is Flat and Vatos Express. They’ll be dishing out barbecued chicken thighs, open fire roast beef sandwiches and Korean beef brisket banh mi to pair with their new cider while you groove to live music. Apr 28-29

FOOD
Whole foods shopping enclave Taste is having a grand opening launch party and everyone’s invited. For $50, you’ll get to sample the store’s range of cold cuts, grilled meats, cheeses, wines, beers, oysters and more between 5-7pm. A Taste Opening Ticket can be purchased on their site to be part of the launch. Or just go down unannounced and shop till your heart’s content. Apr 28

FESTIVAL
The annual Singapore Heritage Festival is back this year and Caldecott Broadcast Centre is stealing the limelight as part of the festival’s Takes Over! program, where usually inaccessible areas are now open to the public to visit. A myriad of activities in other neighborhoods including Bukit Pasoh and Little India are happening too. Apr 28-May 14

FOOD
Tucked inside a high-security gated industrial estate is Portico Host, a spacious restaurant complete with a porch and garden. The place, formerly known as Hosted on the Patio, is helmed by Chef Ken Wong. On the menu are hearty but quite unusual (in a good way) items like pan-seared Pulau Ubin sea bass and seared ahi tuna. They also do a jumbo serving of truffle fries that comes topped with truffle shavings, white truffle salt, aged gruyere shavings and gold leaf(!). Desserts are theatrical: there’s a multi-textured deconstructed black forest bowl for instance, or simply go for their dessert tasting platter to try a good variety of sweet treats.
UOB cardmembers get to enjoy a 1-for-1 deal for their main courses. Terms and conditions apply. More here.

PARTY
1960’s New York back alley club-inspired Lulu’s Lounge is having its grand opening party. The brand spanking new club is opened by the same people behind Pangea and neighboring Bang Bang, and promises a more refined bottle service experience without all that loud music and Champagne sparklers going off. Come for the jazz, burlesque performances, wines and classic cocktails with a twist. Apr 28

THEATER
The world’s oldest opera house, San Carlo Theatre of Naples in Italy, is bringing one of the oldest ballet performances in the world, Giselle, to the Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands for four nights only. Giselle tells the tale of forgiveness and betrayal against a haunting backdrop of vengeful, abandoned brides. Through Apr 29

DRINK
St Paddy and Singapore Cocktail Festival may be over, and you may be pining for another big-scale boozy event. This month, there’s the spring edition of 1855 The Bottle Shop’s now-famed Wine & Whisky Week happening at Suntec City on Apr 19-30. There’ll be more than 500 wines and whiskies, among them, varieties of Old World and New World pinot noirs, magnums from seven notable Bordeaux estates and award-winning labels from Australia, Spain and more. Through Apr 30
