Pool parties, pub crawls and other things to do this weekend in Singapore

Chinese New Year is around the corner and almost everyone is inundated with lots of family gatherings, reunion dinners, and the like. But since it’s a long weekend, there’s still time (hopefully) to do the stuff you love. Here’s what’s on:

Fri, Feb 5

MARKET
MAAD is back with lots of local vendors, designers, craftsmen and local creatives hawking their wares. Naturally, the Organisation of Illustrators Council will be drawing portraits, too.

PARTIES
South Beach Quarter’s newest bar, The Armoury is having a launch party. Craft beers and housepours galore at this one.

The Bob Marley Birthday Bash has DJ Nez and DJ Submerge spinning with guest acts DJ Rumshot and rapper Masia One. This tribute party will also feature a pop-up art fair on the roof featuring Rastafari-themed vinyl, crafts and merchandise for sale. 

DJs Andrew and Titus Chow are playing hip-hop and R&B beats at this Reminisce party.

Big-deal DJ Dash Berlin (one of the top 100 according to DJ mag) will be raising the roof at Zouk. 

EXPLORING
It’s the last weekend for history geeks to get nerdy at this tour of Fullerton Hotel. You pay $20 for the tour, and get the same amount off at any of their restaurants.

EAT
Make your way down to Jinzakaya, a new izakaya place with gorgeous looking skewers and yakimono mains.

Sat, Feb 6

LITERARY
Booktique is having a Valentine’s Day indie book fair, with self-published authors selling interesting titles like Harris bin Potter and the Stoned Philosopher. 

PARTY
DJ Sha, Gravity and Alvin will be playing hip-hop and gangsta style tunes at Blue Jaz’s ’90s Rewind Party

Sofitel So’s HI-SO rooftop bar is having a Sorrynotsorry party, which will serve bespoke cocktails and food. Oliver Osborne, JNR, Louis Mack, Tye West and Haan will also be playing.

DATING
There’s a super secret speed dating event to meet 100 people. If you haven’t a date for V-Day (and want one), you know what to do.

EXPLORING
There’s this intriguing evasion and concealment workshop at Bukit Timah, where you’ll learn how to blend into nature and sneak around without being noticed.

DRINK
To celebrate the year of the monkey, Mabuk Monkey is having a pub crawl, with free shots at every bar and happy hour prices all night long. 

There’s an Italian Aperitif tasting at Limcello Pizza and Grill, with finger food like bruschetta, focaccia and pizza.

WORKSHOP
Learn how to look fierce at this make-up workshop by Laura Mercier. They’re giving away $200 worth of make-up goodies, so make-up junkies, this one’s for you.

ART
Check out photography work by over 200 artists represented by this new gallery at the Paragon, Lumas. You may even snag hand-signed original pieces by some big-deal photographers here, if you’re lucky.

Sun, Feb 7

PARTIES
There’s a fun Bollywood dance party at 1-Altitude, where you’ll get to channel your inner Shah Rukh Khan or Kareena Kapoor. Dance the night away to your favorite tunes at this one.

If you’re not too busy at a reunion dinner, head on over to Chinatown to countdown to the Chinese New Year. There’s also a street light-up happening there if you can brave the crowds.

Hard Rock Cafe is celebrating the birthday of Bob Marley, with Reggae Nights with Bushman. If you come in the “ One Love, One Heart “ T-shirt from the cafe shop, entry is waived.
