Laneway, sexy new restaurants and other things happening in Singapore this weekend (Jan 29-31)

It’s the end of January and you’ve made it! You worked super hard and deserve to enjoy yourself. What better way to do that than to rock out at Laneway, take part in an interactive play or check out the many new restaurants and bars throwing open there doors. Here are the highlights.

LITERARY
Usually a fixture at Artistry, Story Slam Singapore is upgrading to a bigger, sexier venue for its big Grand Slam, where eight storytellers pit themselves against one another.

THEATER
Oh! Open House is having an interactive play, No Man’s Land, where you’ll be brought a secret venue where you’ll have to solve a mysterious puzzle.

EAT
Check out the new Lucca’s Trattoria for some Italian, including breaded chicken escallops in creamy gravy and the bistecca.

DRINK
Grab some friends to chill at Oxwell and Co.‘s new rooftop bar, with some gin and tonic and cocktails.

DANCE
The Singapore Latin Festival starts today, so learn how to dance at the workshops or marvel at the pros at the competitions. 

RESTAURANT
Don’t know if you’ll manage a table at the much anticipated new Australian restaurant Whitegrass, but you should at least try.

CONCERT
Laneway is here! Grab a floaty top and dance to bands like Beach House and CHVRCHES. There are also Asian acts like GDJYB and Cashew Chemists.

EXPLORING
Check out Bukit Brown’s Tombs of Hills 2 and 5, with Tay Koh Yat and he’ll show you some  cool graves, with one depicting scenes from the Chinese epic, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and the shed of a cemetery caretaker.

The Fullerton is doing a history tour to commemorate its status as a National Monument. History geeks, take note.

EAT
Check out new, boozy izakaya Uma Uma, Izakaya Bar and Restaurant. There’s also ramen and kushikatsu (breaded fried skewers).

MUSIC
If you didn’t get your act together in time for Laneway, you can still catch local bands and musicians The Madhatter Project, Lew and The Neptune Waves at the All Things New showcase.

WELLNESS
Liv Lo is having a yoga session at Elements and Co. Come for the health goodies by The Nutrition Clinic, Stretch City and We Are Cultured.

THEATER
Multimedia designers Yusri ‘Shaggy’ Sapari, Brian Gothong Tan and Daniel Primo, as well as Lighting designer Lim Woan Wen, and sound artist Darren Ng talk about what they do to prepare for a stage production in this edition of Insider Series.

SHOPPING
Grab something from the new Supermama@Esplanade, full of trinkets by local designers. Go see if they have some tote bags with Singlish sayings on them.
