In the spirit of Kurt Schwitters’ living sculptural collage of the same name, Merzbau presents the discovery of an Indonesian identity through the creation of art, focusing on the reflection of self in a predominantly collectivist society, and the invention of a language to portray new attitudes towards social tension and political strife. Prominent artists featured include Abenk Alter, Debra Raymond and Petek Sutrisno.
