We always say children need a lot of sleep to grow, but the same is true for adults for better health and well-being. Many of us, however, may not be doing so well. Based on data collected by Garmin from Jan 2020 through Mar 2023, Venu users in Singapore are sleeping shorter than the average deep-sleep duration of 1.46 hours and 1.18 hours for men and women, respectively.

Besides restoring memory and energy, deep sleep also grows and repairs tissues and bones, and regenerates cells. If you don’t get enough, you may develop health conditions like heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and diabetes.

Each night, adults need 90 to 120 minutes of deep sleep. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends seven hours of sleep per night for adults between 18 and 60 – and deep sleep should account for a quarter of that time.

According to Healthline, it typically lasts 45 to 90 minutes in the first half of the night, getting shorter with each cycle. If you wake up feeling exhausted, you may not have gotten enough.

Garmin’s Venu 3 series of GPS smartwatches aims to tackle this issue with the Sleep Coach function, which runs in the background as you sleep, along with personalised wellness insights, fitness features, and more.

In addition to a host of onboard sensors such as the heart rate monitor and Pulse Ox (the oximeter function) that record your overall health, the new Sleep Coach feature operates while the watch is on your wrist to monitor your sleep pattern, restlessness, stress, and what Garmin calls your “Body Battery” energy levels.

Wear it to bed
When in smartwatch mode, the purpose-built watch has a 14-day battery life, which allows users to wear it 24/7 for a fuller picture of their health. Sleep, of course, is one of the most important aspects because if you aren’t sleeping well, you won’t be feeling well.

When you wear the Venu 3, the new on-wrist Sleep Coach automatically tracks sleep and nap times and recommends how much sleep you should try and get.

When you wake up in the morning, the watch shows you how you slept and what your day holds as it summarises your sleep score, your calendar, and even the weather forecast. As well as jet lag tips, it offers guided meditation practices for reducing anxiety and stress, resulting in improved deep sleep.

Venu 3 also has features for wheelchair users, such as tracking pushes and following wheelchair-specific workouts.

It keeps you connected no matter where you are during your waking hours. With a built-in speaker and microphone, the Venu 3 watch allows you to answer and make calls, send texts, and respond to emails. And, if anything happens to you, your location is sent to selected emergency contacts as a safety measure.

The Venu 3 series is available in two sizes (Venu 3 and Venu 3S) and comes fitted with an interchangeable lightweight, stainless-steel bezel and silicone band. Available now, the smartwatch has a suggested retail price of $669 and is available on Lazada, Shopee, Garmin brand stores, and authorised retailers.
