If you are a creator, this programme at Figment Club House could be for you

It looks unassuming on the outside, a heritage shophouse located at the heart of Geylang flanked by clan associations and coffeeshops.

Inside, reclaimed timber, poured concrete, terrazzo tiles and overgrown tropical hanging plants come together to create an organic, “second home” environment.

But that’s precisely the point. Figment Club House is a quaint, charming space dedicated to creatives who can hone their craft, “contemplate their creative stasis and push their boundaries of making”.

It is the location of the Creator Residency programme recently launched by Figment, a boutique hospitality company specialising in heritage home rentals. According to founder of Figment, Fang Low, its handpicked shophouses serve as a platform for cultural expression, and local creatives are championed as cultural “construction workers” who can help build a strong sense of place.

The Creator Residency programme at Figment Club House provides exclusive use of a shophouse studio and creative workspace for a term of three months. The inaugural batch of residents include Andy Yang, Bridget Tay, Dylan Chan, Naaz, Rong Choy and Tulika Ahuja.

Selected Figment Ambassadors will guide and mentor residents, opening a platform for networking, discussion and innovation. Facilitated by Figment’s lead curator Jen Quinn Choo, residents may host workshops, tutorials, discussions, and showcases during the time of their Residency, and work towards a public exhibition hosted in a Figment shophouse.

This local programme follows Figmant’s international Creator Residency in “The Kampung” comprising several Balinese-style villas on Nongsa Beach, Indonesia.

As part of the company’s larger commitment to the arts. 15 percent of all rental proceeds go to supporting local arts with commissions, fellowships and the Creator Residency programme.

Figment Club House is at 11 Lorong 24A Geylang, Singapore 398535. For more information, visit www.figment.live.
