The world’s largest Mercure hotel has just opened in Club Street, bringing a vibrant local-themed design and an impressive repertoire of 989 rooms to one of Singapore’s busiest urban districts.
A property under the larger umbrella of hospitality group Accor, Mercure Icon Singapore City Centre embodies its Singaporean roots beginning from its facade which draws from the distinctive architecture of the surrounding conservation shophouses, many of which have been standing for over a century.
The local flavour extends to the spacious lobby, which continues with an LED mural and artworks of nearby shophouses expressed by local artist Ripple Root. Individual rooms feature either floor-to-ceiling windows or balconies so guests can soak in Chinatown’s cultural ambience.
Speaking of the rooms, they are comfortably appointed with both leisure and business travellers in mind, taking extra pains to include sustainable amenities where possible. Think filtered water dispensers and biodegradable bathroom kits for the ultimate guilt-free stay.
Guests can also expect a suitably hefty culinary suite, given the hotel’s sizable 989-room roster. Highlights from the six dining experiences available at the hotel include the first Southeast Asian outpost of L’antica Pizzeria da Michele, a famed Neapolitan pizza chain with more than 150 years of history; Chara Brasserie, an all-day dining establishment offering Mediterranean buffets with Asian and Pacific flavours; and sushi joint Ashino, which will be opening up in the second half of 2024.
