Fans of Saigon-based craft beer brewery Heart of Darkness can now easily get their hands on their flavoursome brews, thanks to them opening a gastropub in Singapore—their first outside Vietnam—that carries almost their full core range of beers on tap.
From their gateway craft beer, the refreshing Sacred Fire Golden Ale ($15/pint), to the vibrant and hoppy Kurtz’s Insane IPA ($19/pint), there’s bound to be a brew you like from their 30 taps. We’d definitely recommend you trying their best-seller, the fruity and balanced Dream Alone Pale Ale ($17/pint), or the Excited Magpie Dry Irish Stout ($15/pint), for a roasty and creamy beer that’s smashable for days.
Besides Heart of Darkness’ core range, expect a wide selection of limited releases, as well as guest taps and local brews from the likes of That Singapore Beer Project, Daryl’s Urban Ales and Brewlander. The selection rotates, so check back often even if that double IPA you enjoy so much has run dry.
Food wise, there’s a good pick of bar snacks and mains, so you know you’re sorted regardless of your appetite. You can’t go wrong with the chilli cheese fries ($14), or the chicken wings ($14 for 6) that come in buffalo, teriyaki or caramelized fish sauce styles. If you’re really hungry, a hot bowl of beef or chicken pho ($16) will set you straight, or get the wagyu cheeseburger ($28) for something classic.
Needless to say, the food is best paired with their craft beers. And if you’re unsure which of the 30 on tap to order, get a flight of four ($25) or six ($35) beers so you can try several before picking out your favourite.
