Smith Street Taps

The buzz: This pop-up stall selling craft beer on tap—the first of its kind—is a collaborative effort between craft beer stalwart The Good Beer Company, which is right next door, and bottle shop Brewer’s Craft (#01-191 Blk 354, Clementi Ave. 2, 9815-2613, www.brewerscraft.com.sg).

The décor: It’s basically your usual kopitiam stall setup with no frills. You purchase your beer on the spot and sit at the ubiquitous plastic tables that surround the stall.

The drinks: There’s a discerning selection of craft beer on tap with varying flavour profiles, such as Brewdog Mashtag ($13/pint), Thornbridge Kipling South Pacific Pale Ale ($12/pint), and Jungle Beer Vanilla Porter ($9/pint). The drinks roster changes regularly.

The food: Pair your beer with the hawker fare—such as satay and char kway teow—served up at the neighboring stalls.

The music: Whirring fans, sizzling fryers and the ambient sounds of street life.

The crowd: Mostly expats and professionals looking to unwind post-work, as well as craft beer enthusiasts. There’s also the occasional uncle shuffling over for something other than the usual Tiger fix.

Why you’ll be back: The rotating selection of beer offerings means there’s always something new to sample. And it’s a refreshing change from pretty much every other bar in town.
