Buzz: Bringing a new lease of life to a corner of Kampong Glam known more for its eating houses, spas and non-descript shops, The Studio is the newest nightspot in one of our favorite parts of town.
Décor: As one might gather from the name, its interior is based on the concept of a studio apartment. There are cozy lounge seats, mirrors on the walls, rafters above you, tables with various odds and ends, and black-and-white wall murals of windows and furniture.
Drinks: Bartender (yes, he’s quite happy to simply be called “bartender”) Sam Wong can mix anything you want entirely from scratch using fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices and their own sugar syrup. Their signature cocktails include The Landlord (a refreshing Bacardi 151 and grapefruit juice concoction), The Roommate (strawberries and cream in a glass) and The Gardener (gin, lemon juice, fresh mint leaves and basil served out of a teapot). Classics are there, too, and you can tailor a drink to your preferences. Cocktails cost $18-22 and premium house pours like Chivas Regal 18, Ron Zacapa 23 and Ketel One cost $15-16.
Food: Run of the mill bar bites, but at $6 for a plate of wings, $9 for a pizza, $5 for fries and $4 for nachos, we can’t complain.
Music: Sexy downtempo.
Crowd: Hip 20-30-somethings stopping for a drink before or after a shisha session down the road.
Why we’ll be back: The cocktails, which are only limited by your imagination. It’s a great space for events too—you can book it out on weekdays with a minimum spend of $400 ($700 on weekends).
