Buzz: One outlet is no longer enough for old vino favorite Wine BOS. Joining the ever burgeoning Katong nightlife scene, the Wine BOS spirit of “drinkable wines at affordable prices” finds its home in Katong Village (once the site of Joo Chiat Police Station). Patrons can expect the best of the original Jalan Klapa location without the parking problems.
Décor: Upon entering, you’ll be engulfed by a cozy, European neighborhood bar vibe, with floor-to ceiling wine cabinets and vines draped over every possible surface (including the chandeliers). The atmosphere is laidback and friendly, with dim enough lighting to hide your inevitably flushed face once the wine takes hold.
Food & Drinks: As the name suggests, it’s all about wine here. Housepour glasses go for $7 (sparkling at $8) and larger groups can take advantage of their “buy two get one free” deal on non-vintage bottles. If you visit from 6-8pm you can enjoy a free-flow of wine and tapas for only $22. If wine isn’t your thing, there’s also Tiger and Heineken on tap and three enticing martinis. A wide selection of continental comfort food is on offer, from light bites like crispy calamari ($9.50) and bitter ballen ($8.50) to something a bit more substantial like sirloin steak with potato and veggies ($16.50), the highly-recommended pork knuckle ($24) and lobster pasta ($26).
Music: Classics with a slightly Latin twist, with daily live bands belting out pop favorites.
Crowd: A mixture of young things, corporate types and local drinkers embracing the post-work down time.
Why you’ll be back: Within two minutes of walking in the door, it’ll feel like your new local.
