Singapore Bars & Restaurants With No Service Charge

Bar Bar Black Sheep
Great heartland joints offering Indian, Thai and Western food along with a full bar menu. East siders rejoice—they just opened a fourth outlet at 362 Tanjong Katong Road.
Broth
Broth, which stands for “Bar Restaurant On The Hill”, got a four-star review on our last visit. Service here is discreet and understanding (quite an achievement when they choose not to charge for it). Try their chocolate fondant and sticky date pudding.
Casa Verde
Casa Verde has a good menu of salads, pastas, pizzas, mains and Asian dishes—and a very decent breakfast menu which it has quickly cultivated a following for.
Esquina
One of the rare places we’ve awarded a five-star review, Esquina offers superb Spanish food, with items like ox cheek oloroso and barbecued mackerel being our favorites, as well as Estrella Damm beers.
Extra Virgin Pizza
One of our favorite pizza places in Singapore does a mean spicy pepperoni, along with less common stuff like pistachio pesto with mozzarella and truffle oil-scented mushroom bianco.
Full Steam
Great if you’re looking for a tasty, healthy meal to takeaway. They’ve got a variety of baskets for veggie, meat and even seafood lovers, as well as sweet treats (though we wouldn’t call these desserts).
KUMO
The endearing dining concept of omakase is available at this cozy kaiseki place helmed by chef Hirohashi Nobuaki.
Nirvana Bistro Bar
A charming Chinatown shophouse space that serves light bites such as mozzarella cheese sticks, sandwiches, as well as a variety of cakes you can have for tea.
OChre Italian Restaurant
Not sure if they’ve still got the separate, colored menus here, but we enjoyed the smoked duck risotto, herb-and-almond crusted lamb chops and vongole e cozze when we last ate here.
Pho Stop
The focus here, of course, is the pho. Yes, there’s chicken ($7.20), but we suggest the beef feast combo of brisket, sliced beef and beef balls ($8.90). They also offer prawn and chicken rolls with hoi sin peanut sauce, homemade fish cakes and pork chops with rice.
SALTA
Named after a region in Argentina, Salta is the epicurean meat lover’s paradise. Most would cut to the chase and order the lomo (tenderloin), but if you’re not quite so focused, try the six-course Argentine Experience set.
SPRING JuChunYuan
Really good food and value for money. It’s rare to find a restaurant that delivers on all fronts, and this is one of them.
