Fordham & Grand: Speakeasy style

Listen here boozehounds: the latest joint to hit Craig Road is Fordham & Grand. In real speakeasy style, they’ve been operating for around two weeks without signage, just a nondescript door. The place was inspired by the cross street of Fordham and Grand in the Bronx, which was really hopping with bootleggers during prohibition.

They’re planning on putting up a sign today though, so from now on it should be easier to find. Outfitted with plenty of dark wood, it looks like a cozy hangout serving straightforward dishes including green pea risotto with zucchini flower ($24) and seared duck breast with spiced raisins and caramelized apples ($28).

The drinks are also no hooch. There are 100 wines priced under $100 such as the Italian Vigna di San Lorenzo Pinot Grigio ($80) and Australian Flametree Embers Cabernet Sauvignon ($98). Cocktails like the Kentucky Fleur d’Orange ($17), which the menu describes as a girly old-fashioned doctored with grand marnier, round out the tipple selections. The folks behind the place hope that you’ll stay a while getting high on giggle water and comfort grub. Besides, they stay open till 3am, so you won’t have to hightail it out of there till morning.
