Ladies who Lunch (and run F&B empires)

Spotted! Having lunch together in Singapore recently: None other than Spa Esprit Group’s Cynthia Chua and Lindsay Jang of Hong Kong’s Yardbird (the insanely-hard-to-get-a-table-at, New York-styled yakitori joint, which has been packed ever since it opened).

Now, it’s perfectly possible these two titans behind some of the region’s coolest lifestyle concepts were just having a casual catch-up; but we can’t help wondering if there might be something more in the works. And with International Women’s Day happening today, we say more power to them. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

In the meantime, if you’re up in HK any time soon, and can’t get in at Yardbird, you could try Jang’s brand new spot; 14-seater izakaya Ronin, which opened less than a week ago (8 On Wo Lane, Central, Hong Kong, +852 2547-5263, www.roninhk.com). Unlike Yardbird, they do take reservations, but only up to 7 days in advance (counting the day on which you submit your request): email [email protected] to try your luck.

Spa Esprit have been busy too; with a menu refresh at House (and one at Open Door Policy from next week), a new Skinny Pizza outlet down at 100AM, and, best of all (IOHO), the all-new Kiasu Coffee from Harry Grover of 40 Hands
