A Spoonful of Sugar
If you’re looking to score a little sumthin’ sumthin’, head down to Aroma (G/F InterContinental Singapore, 80 Middle Rd., 6825-1058). They offer a range of delectable cakes including bebe poire caramel crumble, smooth caramel mousse with caramelized baby pears topped with crumble ($6), macaron framboise et litchi ($5.50) and durian gateau, a durian mousse cake crowned with durian puffs (also $5.50). Other creations to try include April’s cake of the month, a black and white sesame mousse (from $6), while May’s is a light and aromatic pandan mousse atop light pandan chiffon sponge.
Dog Eat Dog World
We’ve been waiting for 40 Hands (#01-12, 78 Yong Siak St., 6225-8545) to introduce their gourmet hotdogs since they first told us about them back in Feb. Now that they have, we can’t wait to mosey on down after work to try an Ang Mo Classic ($12), with a choice of beef, pork or Guinness beef and pork sausage, topped with gherkins, melted cheese, mustard and red carrot ketchup or The Odyssey ($12), a lamb and mint sausage, topped with red grape chutney, feta cheese and chopped rocket salad. Get your hands on one of these hotties from Wed-Sat, after 7pm.
Spanish Invasion
Another fresh arrival on the dining scene is Sabio Tapas Bar & Restaurant (5 Duxton Hill, 6223-4645), which opened a couple of days ago. This Spanish eatery joins Buyan Russian Haute Cuisine & Caviar Bar (9/10 Duxton Hill, 6223-7008) and Flor Patisserie (2 Duxton Hill, 6223-8628) on Duxton Hill, proving that this neck of the woods is changing fast, and for the better
