9 new restaurants, cafes and bars to check out this month in Singapore

Planning your next meal out requires careful consideration. Here are the places you have to check out on your next night out.

Banana Tree

If you’ve got a sweet tooth and a penchant for Instagram-worthy, twee desserts, you should make a beeline for this place. The Korean dessert cafe stands out in the hip Keong Saik, better known for its cocktail bars and edgy restaurants. While there is a lot of yellow going on and a lot of banana featured on the menu, who can resist Oreo cakes in little pots?

Bar Ippudo

Can you think of anything better than slurping down some late-night ramen by Ippudo and opening a bottle of sake? Neither can we. The newest outlet of the famed ramen chain has over 70 bottles of sake and an all-new bar menu that includes comforting Japanese favorites like oden soup.

Bottura

Good Italian food doesn’t have to come at a price. The latest addition to the scene is this expansive and modern restaurant with homey fare from Bologna. It’s all about pastas like tagliatelle ragu, thin-crust Italian pizzas and homemade gelatos. Plus, the space has a retail section where you can stock up on dry goods like porcini mushrooms and re-stock your bar with Italian wines.

Lepark

While this super cool restaurant and bar hasn’t opened yet, it is located on the rooftop carpark of People’s Park Complex (which automatically ups its cool quotient already). And when it does fully open, the space will dish out fusion tapas bites like salted egg yolk soft shell crab sliders and salads with gula melaka. The space also has a list of craft beers and will be home to the Getai series of local live music sessions.

MeatLiquor SIN

We can’t stop talking about our very own outlet of the popular London burger bar. The menu is full of greasy and messy burgers loaded with an interpretation of the Big Mac sauce, juicy patties and cheese. There is also a range of sides like the toothsome sambal fries and buffalo chicken wings. Just don’t forget to order a cocktail while you’re at it.

The Melt Bar

This one seems to have slipped under people’s radar. PasarBella now has a dedicated grilled cheese sandwich stall, possibly the first in Singapore. The menu is full of all types of pressed and grilled creations like bacon and guac, as well as an extra cheesy spicy jalapeno creation. Plus, they’ve got craft beers from Modern Times and Kona, too.

Paddy Hills

This Aussie-inspired joint has opened up on Buona Vista. A brunchy cafe by day and fusion Australian-Japanese tapas bar by night, the beautiful and airy space flecked with blue hues dishes out plates full of berry ricotta hotcakes with maple syrup and eggs with pork belly and smoked salmon. There are also bigger lunch dishes like squid ink tagliatelle with mentaiko and coffee by Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee.

Osteria Art

The CBD’s newest Italian eatery is quite a gem. Not only are the glamorous interiors, complete with copper lamps, jewel-shaped sconces and red leather chairs, gorgeous, but everything is decently priced. It’s all about elevating homey Italian classics with artfully-plated dishes of romaine lettuce with bottarga and garlic crumbs, perfectly medium-rare beef tagliata and hearty beef agnolotti pasta with freshly shaved truffles. They’ve got a large, hearty porchetta dish, too.

Mak’s Noodle

This noodle shop has yet to open, but it’s slated to set up shop in The Centrepoint by the end of the month. If you think the name sounds familiar, it’s because the famous Hong Kong wanton noodle restaurant is opening an outlet here. Expect more springy egg noodles and delicious wantons when it does open.
