Nestled within a charming shophouse at Ann Siang Hill, Boyutei is an all-day dining Japanese café. Although opened just fairly recently, its minimalist interior with wooden counters, tabletops, and chairs reminiscent of a Japanese zen garden has already seen itself appear on many of our radars.

As enticing as the cafe’s decor, their culinary offerings feature a savoury menu helmed by Head Chef Takuya Yamashita from one Michelin-starred Whitegrass, as well as a dessert and beverage list managed by beloved tea artisans Hvala.

Highlights include the Sando Sandwiches, which headline Boyutei’s menu. Set atop a pillowy soft brioche toast, deep-fried ebi prawns are drizzled with tartar sauce, fresh tomatoes, cabbage, and a homemade chilli drizzle that cuts through the richness in their Ebi Katsu Sando. There’s also the timeless Chicken Nanban Katsu Sando option that will never fail.

For a full-on meal, their selection of hot dishes include Cha Soba and Japanese Dry Curry. Cleaner flavours present themselves with the Niku Miso Chazuke, which is an unassuming rich dish that combines moromi-miso flavoured minced beef, genmai crispy bits, and fluffy Japanese white rice.

Sweet and savoury Japanese crepes are also available, with options like Seafood Mentaiko, Prawn and Chicken Okonomiyaki, Caramelised Banana, and Tiramisu.

Pair your meal with some of our favourite brews, brought in from Hvala’s exclusive partner farm and prepared at the café’s live tea counter. Customers can sip on a selection of Chinese and Japanese teas, including Golden Key, Snowflake Dancong, Hojicha Karigane and Sakura Smoked.

Their perfect sweet-enders include a Black Forest Tart and a Sticky Date Pudding. Highly recommended is the Matcha Goma Garden, which serves up a handmade matcha warabi mochi alongside a scoop of rich, creamy matcha ice cream and a goma chocolate cookie.
