What’s not to love about pizza? It’s essentially a wood-fired (or at least, preferably) flat bread that carries all your favourite toppings, plus cheese, lots of cheese. To know where exactly to head to for delicious slices, just keep scrolling.
Dishing out Italian favourites utilising fresh ingredients imported from Italy since the mid-’90s is Al Forno East Coast Restaurant & Pizzeria. So expect to find homemade pizzas like the vegetarian Pizza Bufala that’s topped with buffalo cheese and basil; or the spicy Pizza Diavola, which features mozzarella cheese, chilli and salami. You can even head over on Sundays for their brunch menu that offers all their signature items, including pizzas, of course.
At Bella Pizza, you’ll notice that pizzas are segregated according to their sauce base. Classic options such as the Pizza Margherita or Pizza Con Rucola are on the Red Pizza menu, while their specials and signatures are in the White Pizza menu. Try the Pizza Bella Pizza off the latter, that comprises salami, sauteed spinach, mozzarella and ricotta.
Ask nearly anyone about this spot and they’ll probably rave about it endlessly. Their authentic stone-fired pizzas are all the rage; like The White Label, topped with bechamel, boursin, goat's cheese and fried rosemary; as well as the aptly-named Umami Bomb, which comes with shiitakes, spinach, lemon, anchovy, goat's cheese, a cornmeal crust.
Both Cicheti and its sister restaurants dish out fine Italian cuisine, but there’s just something about the original locale that leaves a mark. They offer close to 15 varieties of Neapolitan-style pizzas, tons of yummy pastas and a great range of starters.
Located at HillV2, this is one of our favourite places for affordable yet authentic Italian food. Its pizzas are not your usual round, eight-slice versions; instead, choose the size of your pizza, and it’ll come in rectangular pieces. And definitely pick either the M or L, as you’ll be able to choose more than one flavour.
There’re a lot of carbs to love here. First and foremost, La Forketta at Dempsey Hill offers freshly-baked bread from their wood oven, in addition to their speciality 12-inch wood-fired sourdough pizzas and wood-fired sourdough focaccia (the Focaccia Assortita is a must-try). Off the extensive pizza list, check out the La Tartufo (Truffle) featuring mozzarella cheese, brie cheese, truffle oil and porcini; or Boscaiola, that has toppings like homemade pancetta (bacon), mushrooms and onions.
Another great dining location for satisfying and rather wallet-friendly pizzas is Lino at Binjai Park. Opened by the Les Amis group, Lino offers fresh, handmade pastas, pizzas and small plates. We highly recommend the spicy Salami Piccante and the vegetarian-friendly Mixed Mushroom.
Hailing from the UK, PizzaExpress has expanded all across Singapore, with six outlets including one at Duo Galleria and at Jewel Changi Airport. We doubt you’ll be able to resist the Dough Balls “PizzaExpress”, which serves eight fried pieces of bread to be dipped in garlic butter, as well as the Pomodoro Pesto, a pizza topped with fresh mozzarella, passata, cherry tomatoes, and of course, pesto Genovese.
Serving tasty, no-frills but flavourful and chewy sourdough slices is Plank Sourdough Pizza, with their numbered-not-named pizzas. The 8 comes highly-recommended because of its toppings of fragrant lamb and fennel meatballs, caramelised garlic, buttered leeks and liberal use of herbs.
Fairmont Singapore’s long-standing Italian restaurant Prego received a menu revamp alongside new furnishings last year, so expect to dig into new signatures in a refreshed setting. The pizza menu is long, comprising everything from a locally-inspired Alaskan King Crab that’s spiced with chilli sauce, to the all-time favourite Prego which is topped with mushrooms, ham, mozzarella and cream. And if you just can’t get enough of their delicious slices, try the Pizza ai Quattro Cioccolati too, a dessert number boasting four types of chocolate and marshmallows.
InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay’s rustic Italian restaurant Publico Ristorante dishes out Italian favourites done well. Find typical flavours like the Capricciosa and Margherita for pizzas, but also others like the meat-filled Carne (think pancetta, salami, bacon and bresaola) and Burrata that offers a fresh and creamy ball of cheese curd to be devoured alongside the handcrafted slices.
Using special recipes by the brand's expert pizzaiolo Junichi Shoji, Trattoria Pizzeria Logic’s pizzas are delicious thanks to its custom-built kiln which results in smoky and crisp crusts that retain its chew. The signature Pizza Margherita D.O.C will definitely keep you coming back for more, while the locally-inspired Pizza Leone keeps you on your toes.
