The newly-revamped Capitol Theatre is now home to a mall, too. While the place isn’t full done up yet, there are tons of foodie options to get excited about. Plus, there’s an underground walkway that will connect the place from City Hall MRT, making the rainy day trek that much easier.
For cafes…
One cafe that’s open is Dazzling Cafe, the local offshoot of a famous Taiwanese chain all about girly motifs like unicorns and jeweled door knobs. On the menu are approachable and hearty dishes like mentaiko pasta and their signature mochi QQ waffle and honey matcha toast. Something familiar to cafe lovers is two soon-to-open coffee joints, Oriole Coffee + Bar (#02-20) and Hoshino Coffee (#B2-55) that will be setting up shop here, too.
For Asian fare…
All the way from London, Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant (#02-27) claims to have some of the best roast duck in the world. Aside from serving their signature poultry marinated in a secret blend of spices, the restaurant also has options like deep fried sesame prawn and Pei Pa beancurd. If you’re in the mood for something less atas, there’s food court-style Palette (#B1-20-27) that will have stalls like Balestier Bak Kut Teh and Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant, and is currently under construction. There’s also a new Vietnamese joint in town: Pho Tai (#B2-54) serves a mix of traditional Vietnamese food from pho noodles to broken rice and spring rolls. Plus, this place is open, too.
For casual Western nosh…
Gourmet pizza joint Spizza Mercato (#B2-52) expands with a dedicated retail section. However, you can expect more of the usuals like Rebecca, a white pizza with mozzarella, gorgonzola, ham and rucola, but they also have an expanded menu which includes pastas, salads and mini pizzas. Sharing a space with Teuscher Chocolates and Once Upon a Milkshake is The Rosti Farm (#02-31), which (no points for guessing) fries up pancake-like shredded potato morsels with toppings like sausages and sour cream.
For grabbing a drink…
Even Capitol Piazza isn’t immune to the allure of craft beer. TAP Craft Beer Bar (#01-88/90) is slated to open mid-May with a wide array of craft beers on tap and by the bottle. But if you’re in the mood for something Japanese, you can look forward to Zaku (#01-84) is a sake bar and restaurant that sees former Ku De Ta chef Dan Segall in the kitchen when it opens.
For a sweet treat…
First off, there’s Swiss chocolate store Teuscher Chocolates (#02-31) that’s said to rival even Godiva in quality and taste. Usually on offer are blocks of classic chocolates, as well as creations like pralines and ganaches. Occupying the same space is Once Upon A Milkshake that peddles out flavors ranging from red velvet to bubblegum. In the mix is new and soon-to-open Parisian tea room, Angelina (#01-82), famous for thick hot coco and the Mont Blanc dessert made of sweetened chestnuts and cream.
