Donki’s $2.80 sweet potatoes now have a dedicated outlet at Changi

When Japanese discount chain Don Don Donki is mentioned, one of two things comes to mind—the infectious jingle that has shoppers absentmindedly humming along while pondering over rows and rows of Japanese snacks, and the wafting aroma of freshly baked sweet potato that seems to always sell out the moment it comes out of the oven. For this reason, many frequenters of the beloved retail chain have still never had the chance to get their hands on the popular Kyushu delicacy. This roasted, yellow-fleshed, sweet-smelling starchy goodness leaves only a trail of its infectious scent behind for latecomers. A tragedy indeed.

But not all hope is lost, as the Don Quijote company has established the chain’s fourth outlet, a spin-off from your usual Donki outlet. Located at Changi Airport Terminal 3’s Departure Hall, The Sweet Potato Factory centers around the mobile foods of Japan—including the coveted roasted sweet potatoes that have left people weak in the knees. It’s open 24 hours a day, so no matter what time your flight departs or arrives, you’ll always have a steamy yakiimo ready for your consumption. A baked sweet potato will set you back just $2.80.

Besides the baked tuber snack, another sweet potato-based treat you can get your hands on is the Sweet Potato Milkshake ($4.90). Setting it apart from the taste of regular milk teas that Singaporeans are so familiar with, this creamy beverage is a concoction of rich Hokkaido milk and the earthiness of the sweet potato.

Don Don Donki’s Sweet Potato Factory is located at #02-97, Changi Airport Terminal 3, and is open 24 hours daily. More info here.
