Yet another major American burger chain is making its way to our shores, and this time, with the backing of Singapore-born nightlife institution Zouk behind it.
Cult-favourite US brand Five Guys will be making its Singapore debut in the fourth quarter of 2019, which will mark its second outlet in Asia after its Hong Kong opening late last year. They’ve not confirmed a venue and exact opening date yet, but we sure hope it’s not at Jewel Changi Airport where queues for Shake Shack and Burger & Lobster rage on.
If, like us, you’re more excited for Five Guys than the other burger franchises, we get it. Rather than standard burgers, Five Guys promises customisable ones, made-to-order, and with all the toppings you can ever want at no extra cost.
Simply choose a burger—just beef, with cheese, with bacon, or bacon and cheese—and get toppings and sauces like mayo, lettuce, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms and jalapeno peppers to go with it. There are 15 to choose from, and you can pile ‘em up just like the way you do at Subway, though with some limits.
Other than burgers, they’ve also got hotdogs, sandwiches, fries and milkshakes. Their shakes in particular are a must-try. Offered just like their burgers, they come customisable with all mix-ins the likes of malted milk, salted caramel and oreo cookies free for your inclusion.
Another reason to love Five Guys is their insistence on having no freezers, no microwaves and no timers in the kitchen, ensuring you only get freshly-made items upon order.
It’s interesting that Zouk Group is the one bringing the Five Guys franchise to Singapore, cementing their move towards being more a lifestyle brand and not just focused on nightlife. Might we see a Five Guys burger kiosk pop-up at a Zouk party night? One can only hope.
