Everyone loves a good burger; even more so when it comes served to you with a side of imagination. The latest burger concept to hit our shores is none other than Hans Im Gluck, the widely successful burger chain from Munich that sprinkles its patties with a little fairy tale magic.
The Singapore outlet, located next to Shaw House in an outdoor, 180-seater establishment, marks the franchise’s 50th outlet globally. (The other 49 have already made their mark across Europe.) Hans Im Gluck, which reads as “Hans in Luck”, is inspired by the title character in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. In the story, little Hans undergoes a string of disheartening trials, only to emerge happy and free from the burdens of materialism (deep, but what can you expect from the Brothers?)
You probably won’t experience the same punchy moralism at the end of your meal—but what you can look forward to is an enchanting dining experience amongst birch trees. Designed as a forest a la Into The Woods, the restaurant’s signature decor sees lush interiors and floor-to-ceiling birch trunks sprouting from the ground to create a green haven away from the city.
As for the food, expect a substantial menu of quality European gastro burgers—over 30 varieties handcrafted to perfection. There are the classic beef burgers, on sourdough or multigrain buns (or without); but also vegetarian and vegan options. Every burger comes with the option of an add-on meal comprising a side and a drink, at $5 for lunch, and $15 for dinner. Aside from its attention to handmade, high quality, the brand’s focus is to go beyond the stereotypical German food scene here—a rather uninspired one, we’ll concede, made up largely of pork knuckles and bratwurst.
Hans Im Gluck opened yesterday (Dec 5), and hopefully will stay around for a while. We could all use a bit of fun and magic in the world right about now.
Hans Im Gluck is located at 362 Orchard Road, Singapore 238887, and is open from 11am-12mn (Sun-Thurs), and 11am-1am (Fri-Sat). More info here.
