[SPONSORED] Chope readers cast their votes on the best places for dinner, brunch and romance in Singapore. These are the highlights from their Diners’ Choice Awards.
Best Restaurant
Catalunya
It’s no wonder this Spanish restaurant has come out on top, with classics like the addictive suckling pig and jamon croquetas but also daringly different deconstructed dishes like their take on the Spanish tortilla. Plus, they’ve got a stellar view of the bay that doesn’t give you vertigo.
Best New Restaurant
Portico
Ever since Chef Nixon Low took the reins, Portico’s been serving up an inspired take on modern European comfort food at its airy space on Alexandra Road: prettily-plated dishes of truffle-scented wild mushroom veloute with toasted buckwheat and tender slow-braised wagyu beef cheek in red wine and port bourguignon sauce.
Best Chef & Most Romantic
Stellar at 1-Altitude
Taking home a double win is this gorgeous restaurant on the 62nd floor of One Raffles Place. It’s romance appeal is clear, with soft yellow lights, starched tablecloths and plush white décor. Plus: Chef Christopher Millar snags a prize for creations like Into The Wild, a juniper-seared venison loin with pigeon pastry and cepe broth; and poached Main lobster risotto with freshly-shaved truffles.
Best Brunch
Wild Honey
Who doesn’t love a good brunch? The folks at Wild Honey have hit the nail on the head with their spread full of crowd favorites, like the English breakfast with back bacon, Cumberland pork sausage, sautéed mushrooms, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and brioche with eggs; as well as more exotic offerings like the Tunisian with shakshouka and chorizo served in a pan.
Best Dessert
The Disgruntled Chef
Aside from doing chill brunches, lunches and dinner in the lush confines of Dempsey Hill, this place is kryptonite for anyone with a sweet tooth. Don’t be surprised if your mouth waters at dishes like sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream; banana brulée and vanilla ice cream; and red wine poached pear with toasted almonds and ice cream.
Best Hotel Buffet
Basilico
Basilico’s Italian food buffet is sure to make any foodie go weak in the knees. They’ve got a huge spread including a rotisserie, seafood station, a dessert bar and, of course, lots of pastas. Don’t miss the regional Italian meat dishes like lamb chops with braised black cabbage and deep-fried leeks. Oh and there’s free flow Prosecco at brunch, too.
