It can’t be easy being a vegetarian in Singapore, so any time a dedicated vegetarian restaurant opens, a collective whoop goes up around the island. Lotus Kitchen is the newest addition, offering over 50 contemporary vegetarian cuisines and local favorites.
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s by the same Ms Lee who opened Lotus Vegetarian Restaurant—known for their daily spread of over 100 vegetarian buffet dishes; as well as accolades like Singapore’s Top 100 Signature Dish Award. At Lotus Kitchen, however, your regular vegetarian fare gets an upgrade with premium ingredients and an all-new dining concept. Skeptical meat-eaters will be pleasantly surprised to find that vegetarian food isn’t all about fake meat and strange flavors. Instead, dishes here are creatively imagined; expect to find anything from made-to-order dim sum to unique handmade noodles and fusion foods.
There’s the Taro Mee Sua Cake ($6.80), a very modern fusion of pan-fried taro and mee sua cake; or try the restaurant’s masterpiece creation, Signature Crispy Summer Wrap with Passionfruit ($35.80)—crisp soya slices coated in batter and paired with passionfruit strips for an unexpected pucker. Signature dishes from Lotus Vegetarian Restaurant’s menu, like the Lotus Yam Paste with Purple Rice ($6.80), will also be available.
For a cozy meal and food straight from the heart, Lotus Kitchen looks set to be the next destination for a group hang—whether you’re vegetarians by choice or not.
Lotus Kitchen is located at #01-01/02 Chinatown Point, 113 New Bridge Rd., and is open daily from 11:30am-3pm, and 5:30-9:30pm.
