Spice things up at hot new Mexican restaurant Lucha Loco which threw open its doors in Duxton just last week.
Named after the famous Mexican wrestler, this laid-back newbie is care of Aussie brothers Christian and Julian Tan (some of you might know them from Tanjong Beach Club, their joint effort with The Lo & Behold Group). There are also plans to build a deck over the next few weeks.
Food-wise, there are the usual suspects such as corn chips with roasted tomato chipotle salsa and guacamole ($12) and mango & kingfish ceviche (from $10), as well as more unusual finds including huitlacoche (corn smut) quesadillas ($16), which they’ve cleverly decided to market as “Mexican truffle”. Don’t miss winners such as the tasty chorizo and braised beef brisket taco ($10).
To put the fire in your mouth out, down cocktails like the Mexican Mule ($16), Corralejo Reposado tequila tempered with ginger, ginger beer and fresh lime juice, or their signature Lucha Loco Sangria (from $18), a red, slightly sweet rendition with peach, fig and spiced with a healthy dose of cinnamon.
