World Sake Day was yesterday and there’s a big Sake Festival at Suntec City’s Convention Centre in two weeks, but in the meantime, hop around these bars and restaurants for your sake fix.
Bam! Tapas and Sake Bar
It’s an odd pairing we know, but this Spanish-Japanese combo works surprisingly well. They’ve got a curated selection of sakes to pair with tapas, but if you’re lost, opt for the sake-pairing menu that will ease you into becoming a sake connoisseur.
Bincho
They threw a small sake party yesterday and for good reason. The place is perfect for sipping sake and eating everything chicken-related. You can ask for sakes to be paired with their daily-changing menu if you’re unsure, and you can choose your own sake cup that comes in a variety of shapes and colors.
ME@OUE
This was the venue of the last sake festival and they have a unique three-cuisine blend (French, Japanese and Chinese). Not only do they have a stellar wine collection, their sake collection is pretty impressive, too. You’ll be surprised at how interchangeable these cuisines and sake pairings can be.
Orihara Liquor Shop and Bar
These guys are the ones putting on the sake festival, so this place is a must if you’re looking to get your toes wet when it comes to anything sake-related. They’ve got a range of tasting flights ($30 for three) and an extensive sake selection (brace yourself for over 500 labels), as well as addictive bar snacks and friendly service.
